Employment Opportunity | Organic Certification Programme Inspectors

The National Certification Body of Jamaica (NCBJ), the certification unit of the Bureau of Standards Jamaica (BSJ) is seeking to contract highly motivated, suitably qualified and experienced professionals with proven record of accomplishment to fill on a part-time basis the following positions: Organic Certification Programme Inspectors.

Job Summary:

The incumbent will be required to support the certification process by:

  • Conducting organic certification inspections

The successful candidate should possess:

  • Minimum two years of combined work experience, education, and training in agricultural production, applicable to the scope of inspections to be performed: crops, handling, or livestock.

  • A good understanding of inspection (auditing) techniques and protocols is required regardless of the type of inspection (crop, wild crop, livestock, handling).

  • Training equivalent to the Independent Organic Inspectors Association (IOIA) basic training, i.e. four days of concentrated training culminating in a qualifying exam

  • Apprenticeship consisting of a minimum of three shadow inspections, accompanied by an experienced organic inspector and followed by witness inspections where the apprentice is observed and deemed competent by the experienced inspector or certifying agent.

  • Understanding of inspection protocols applicable to organic standards

  • Training in record keeping and/or accounting

  • Experience with the scope of operations to be inspected, education relevant to the scope of operations to be inspected, or specific training within the scope of operations to be inspected (Crop, Livestock or Processing).

  • Knowledge in terminology, processes and technologies related to the organic sectors

  • Strong oral, presentation and written communication skills and be a good team player

 

*NB. Incumbents with training, work and inspection experiences in the following industries would be at a distinct advantage:-

  • Crop Production

  • Wild Harvest

  • Livestock Production

  • Beekeeping

  • Aquaculture

  • Processing and Handling

  • Grower Group

  • Textile Fibre
